Clayfest
Clayfest! 2008
Ninety-seven degrees did not slow us down! Baltimore Clayworks hosted its annual fundraiser ClayFest! from June 6–8.
This 3-day event topped the charts in temperature, and in activities. Festivities opened Friday night with a preview to the Seconds Sale and live music. Saturday was filled with hands-on fun and games, raku firing, the Clay Olympics, community mosaics and building Mud Head. The shopping continued throughout the weekend, raising $8800 at the sale.
Mud Head created a buzz and made his east coast debut as Baltimore Clayworks' first public green art. Sculptors Trisha Kyner and David Friedheim led the community in the construction as everyone put their handprint in the piece. The sculpture is over 6 feet in height, with a mouth that you can climb through and is covered in cob materialsÑa mixture of clay, sand, and straw. Mud Head can be seen outside of Clayworks' Gallery Building.
All proceeds from ClayFest! support educational and collaborative programs for the ceramic arts at Baltimore Clayworks. Supreme thanks to our sponsors, artists, staff, volunteers, interns and work exchange for making it a success. Mark your calendar June 5–7 for ClayFest! 2009.
