At Mt. Royal Elementary/Middle School, Class 605 completed a ten-day arts integrated unit combining social studies and visual art. The students in this class researched the question "What is Tradition?" in order to gain a better knowledge of Japanese art, culture, and history. On display in the Clayworks Community Arts gallery are the students' take on many of Japan's treasured art forms: the Chawan (a teabowl used in the traditional tea ceremony), the Chochin (a Japanese lantern), and Shibori (a traditional Japanese dye technique) dyed scrolls. Siobhan Vicens, a teacher at Mt. Royal, and Sara Allred, a Clayworks Community Arts teacher, co-taught the unit.
