At Baltimore Clayworks, we believe that everyone deserves an ark.

An ark is a vessel that provides a safe haven from ravaging floods, whether the real floodwaters of a natural disaster, or the metaphoric raging waters of negativity that may surround us in our homes or communities. The idea that art itself can be an ark, a place where the maker can find respite from the deluge, is the point of inspiration for this project.

Close up some of the artworkWith the guidance of Bill Stewart, a renowned ceramic artist from upstate New York, and talented local community artist Herb Massie, senior adults and teens of Baltimore interpreted the theme “Everyone Deserves an Ark” to create this wonderful body of work. All artworks were created at Clayworks’ satellite studio, Baltimore Clayworks Forest Park, located inside the Forest Park Senior Center.

Clayworks continues to lead outstanding artist-led programs at its satellite studio. Classes and workshops for young people, senior adults and families are enrolling now!

Baltimore Clayworks extends its thanks to the Abell Foundation, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the Creative Baltimore Fund and The Family League of Baltimore City, Inc., whose generosity made this project possible.
