In this 2-day long workshop we will explore the plasticity of our own and others faces. Students will become acquainted with the muscles of the face and how these muscles enable us to create a range of facial expressions. On the first day, we will sculpt a series of expressive self-portraits, working from mirrors and photos. On the second day we will work directly from a model. Special attention will be paid to capturing how the shape of the face is changed through contractions and elongations of muscle groups. Students will leave with a new understanding of how to create a face filled with emotion, be it bliss, anger, sorrow or befuddlement.
