Campus and Facilities
The Baltimore Clayworks campus flanks the intersection of Smith Avenue and Greely Road in the northwest corner of Baltimore, MD in the historic neighborhood of Mt. Washington. It occupies two renovated historic buildings and a new studio wing, completed in 2005, and encompasses approximately 18,000 square feet of production and presentation space. The Clayworks Campus is right next to the Mt. Washington Light Rail station, making Clayworks easily accessible from BWI Airport, the Convention Center and Inner Harbor, Penn Station, northbound, and from Hunt Valley and Timonium southbound. Exit the Light Rail car and proceed straight ahead on foot. Baltimore Clayworks is also serviced by the #8 Metro busline.
The Studio Building
Our state-of-the-art, fully-equipped Studio Building includes
- 13 artist studios
- 3 large classroom studios
- 11 electric kilns
- 4 gas kilns
- outdoor Noborigama (a two chambered wood firing kiln frequently rented by institutions, groups and individual clay artists)
- specialized equipment
Gallery Building
Located on the north side of the campus, our large and graceful stone Gallery Building includes
- staff offices
- meeting spaces
- exhibition galleries
- sales galleries
The Gallery Building is open Monday through Saturday, from 10-5, free to the public.
Campus Tours
Baltimore Clayworks offers campus tours Monday–Friday. The group will tour our 3 galleries: Associates’, Exhibitions, and Community Arts. Following the gallery tour, the group will be led through artists’ studios, 3 classrooms, and the kiln room. Demonstrations are available with 2 weeks notice for $25.00.
