“Fractals are described as self-similar, meaning the whole has the same shape as its parts. When these shapes are magnified many times they continue to look the same. Contemporary mathematicians use fractal geometry to describe the natural world; everything from snowflakes and crystal formations, to mountain ranges and coastlines, to the formation of galaxies can be described in fractal terms. The branching patterns of roots and rivers are fractal. The fibers that form our lungs are fractal, the muscles of our heart are fractal, and the pattern of beats it produces is fractal. We are fractal.

No matter the scale, life functions in an identical way, electrons orbit a nucleus in the same way that planets orbit our sun. When considering that all life seems to exist within this infinite pattern an interesting question arises, where on this vast scale do we exist?

This random pattern, this stochastic system, is seemingly oxymoronic, yet when fully grasped makes beautiful sense. Seeing these patterns emerge from apparent chaos inspires me to create works of art that reference the macro and micro, the geometric and organic, the simple and complex. I attempt to recreate this harmonious system, and hopefully open the eyes of the viewer to the greater patterns of life, and let them question where they fit into it.”
