Ceramic artist Ann Hazels and photographer Brian P. Miller fuse the interior with exterior; architecture with environment; and relationship with individual. This is the first time the artists have collaborated. “The images and forms represented are dealing with what we are about on a personal level and an archetypal level. Both of our work is about time and space—this gave us the opportunity to create together, in the same space, at the same time.” The forms Ann worked with are reminiscent of ancient dwellings and weathered earth that suggest a sensitivity and awareness to all that has traveled through. Brian’s images physically and intellectually command the space. They give voice to history and age and infer growth and life in one’s self and one’s surroundings.
Ann was a resident artist at Baltimore Clayworks, Mendocino Art Center in California, and a Jingdezhen Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute fellowship artist. She holds a BA from Berea College in Kentucky. Brian was a resident artist at Mendocino Art Center, Vermont Studio Center, and Contemporary Artist Center in Massachusetts. He received his BFA from Tisch School of the Arts and an MA in Social Anthropology from the University of Manchester in England.
