Wisdom from the Earth

Wisdom from the Earth features memory vessels which Katti Sta. Ana, Baltimore Clayworks’ community artist-in-residence, made for her seniors students, at Clayworks Jubilee Arts in Sandtown, Baltimore. The vessels were handbuilt for the elders, ages ranging from 59 to 92 years old, to place written reflections and symbolic mementos of their memorable life experiences. This will be done in a ritual after the exhibit to provide an opportunity for members of the group to make sense of, reconcile, and celebrate a wealth of life experiences, while bringing them closer to one another as a community. Included in the exhibit are some works made by the elders, most of whom had this clay class as their first since their elementary years.
Katti is Baltimore Clayworks’ community artist-in-residence from its partnership with the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). She is a Fulbright scholar from the Philippines in the MA in Community Arts program at MICA.
