1000 Cups of Hope
ARTvantage Residency with Justin Rothshank
April 24-May 29, 2010

Seniors, youth and adults at Baltimore Clayworks Jubilee Arts experienced the transformative process of clay and community through the Maryland State Art Council’s ARTvantage program funded 1000 Cups of Hope project with visiting artist, Justin Rothshank. Participants from Sandtown/Winchester/Upton and surrounding communities shared their history, stories and culture by compiling text and imagery that were transferred onto ceramic cups.

The abundance of cups bearing community images that are displayed in the gallery will be given to residents of the west Baltimore neighborhood as a community developing tool, expressing that Jubilee Arts is their place to come together as a community to make art.

Baltimore Clayworks partners with Jubilee Arts and Newborn Holistic Ministries to provide clay programming to the residents of the Sandtown-Winchester, Upton, and surrounding neighborhoods in Baltimore, Maryland. Jubilee Arts is located on Pennsylvania Avenue, an area with a rich history of African-American culture, and is helping to bring the arts back to life in the community.

All classes and workshops for seniors are supported through The MetLife Foundation Creative Aging Program. The MetLife Foundation Creative Aging Program is funded by MetLife Foundation and administered by the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
