Cast Away: Mold Making and Slip Casting
In this 12-week class students will learn how to make single and multi-part molds for slip casting. Students will focus on creating or expanding their mold libraries in anticipation of utilizing cast and assembled parts for sculpture or to undertake large scale installations. Participants will be exposed to artists who use casting in their work and will be encouraged to think outside of the box. By the end of this course students will have the knowledge and skills to cast just about anything. Special attention will be paid to exploring how surface and form combine to create visual meaning. This course requires basic handbuilding skills, no previous casting experience is necessary. Course fee includes 25 lbs. of clay and bisque firing.
