Figuratively Speaking: Life Modeling
All skill levels are welcome in this 12-week exploration of the human form in clay. Students will work from a combination of live models plus reference materials as they explore why and how to use the body to express ideas. Emphasis will be placed on anatomical study and the expressive potential of gesture and pose – students should expect to have a minimum 6 weeks of live model contact based on enrollment. Basic and advanced hand-building skills will be taught including the use of armatures to create dynamic expressive figures. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of surface finishing techniques including cold surface and glaze finishes. Open to all levels, however previous clay experience is strongly recommended. Course fee includes 25 lbs. of clay and bisque firing.
