Ceramic Sampler: Modeling Expressive Portraits
This 6-week course offers new students an introduction to gain both flare and facility in clay and to learn fundamental figure modeling skills working from photo studies. Students will become acquainted with the muscles of the face and how these muscles enable us to create a range of facial expressions. Through a series of demonstrations and informal discussion of work, each student will discover their creative voice. Special attention will be paid to capturing how the shape of the face is changed through contractions and elongations of muscle groups. Students will leave with a new understanding of how to create a face filled with expressive emotion. This class is for students who have little or no experience in clay – all skill levels are welcome.
