MARYLAND CELEBRATES "CLAY DAY"
Baltimore, MD - All things clay will be celebrated by Marylanders on Thursday Saturday March 3, 4, 5th, as Governor Robert Ehrlich names that day, Clay Day. As part of Tour de Clay, Clay Day is designed to encourage Marylanders to learn about clay by visiting the hundreds of exhibits throughout Maryland.
Exhibitions will be holding special openings and reception in celebration of Clay Day. Thursday March 3rd in Mt. Vernon and Friday March 4th in Fells Point.
Specifically on Friday, March 4th, students at schools throughout Baltimore will participate in clay activities with artists at all levels from beginners to gifted sculptors. BACVA will host clay demonstrations and clay representatives will hand out balls of clay at various businesses and shopping centers as well as tourist attractions throughout Baltimore encouraging Baltimoreans to explore the possibilities of clay.

- ALL DAY March 4th @ Mondawmin Studio (Baltimore Clayworks satellite
location) in West Baltimore
All day clay activities including Americorps volunteers working in mosaics to complete the neighborhood sign for Parkway;Seniors from local senior centers working from 10:30 – 2:30 on clay projects and mosaic tiles; and students from Connexions and Robert Coleman Elementary in afternoon and after-school clay activities. - Keswick Multicare – Clay day workshop with seniors from 10 – 11:30 pm
- Artist Demos @ BACVA Visitors Center from 11 – 1 pm
- Artist Demos and Hands on Clay Station @ Baltimore Clayworks 3 – 5 pm
- McDonough school – multicultural day and art reception – 7 pm
A group of McDonogh lower, middle and upper school students, led by Middle School art teacher Denise Wolf and nationally known artist Gilda Oliver, will work in teams to create clay coil pots depicting the diversity of McDonogh School community as well as the diversity of academic, athletic, artistic and leadership programs offered at the school. McDonogh School’s Clay Day activity is part of the School’s weeklong multi-cultural celebration, which culminates with an hour-and-a-half performance at
7 p.m. that evening.
